The Pea Coat – A Basic with military roots
The Pea Coat has been around since the 18th century and has its origins as we know it in the navy. Supposedly developed and used by the Dutch in the first place. With their long tradition in naval explorations they needed a coat that could withstand the elements. The “Pije” Coat, as written in Dutch describes a coat made of sturdy wool fabric and has since then made its name into other languages and as we know it today. The Pea Coat.
Even today this durable piece of workwear is used by naval forces in our days, because it has proven itself in rough sea life for centuries and will do so in future.
