1923 Buccanoy Shirt Pomarico Blue

Our 1923 Buccanoy shirt is the perfect choice when you’re looking for something a little more upmarket. What inspired us? All the shirts in our 1923 Buccanoy range are based on a historical design from the 1920s, which itself draws on an even older tradition. As early as the mid-19th century, stand-up collar shirts were the preferred choice in men’s fashion. The key feature of this minimalist collar design is that short stand-up collars allowed a further, more elegant collar to be buttoned on – at that time, preferably the so-called ‘father-killer’. This detachable add-on not only gave the shirt a more formal look, but also made it easier to clean and starch the collar section, which was subject to greater wear and tear and became soiled more quickly. This style of shirt remained hugely popular right up until the 1940s, when it was gradually replaced by the turn-down collar styles – which are still widely worn today – where the collar is permanently attached to the shirt.

We pay homage to the original – with our Buccanoy shirts, too, it’s possible to attach a detachable collar.
